What is it?
The Daily Cure for me is trying to smell taste touch—really experience— something, each day, that reminds me that I'm alive and, mostly, happy to be here. A small moment that should go a long way, at least in theory.-

Transitions: Getting there
There is nothing about the drive to Bougogne that isn’t, in its own way, picturesque and captivating. Between Milan and “nowhere in particular” in the middle of France, there is one beautiful sight after another. Castles. Alps. Amazing tunnels. Valleys. … Continue reading
Milan color story #6: Heat wave yellow
I didn’t blog yesterday. Couldn’t. The Southerner in me dictated inactivity. It was just too damn hot. You could have fried one of those goose eggs I wrote about on the sidewalk. Or on your car hood. Or on your … Continue reading
Hanging right out there
‘Tis the season—well, actually, when isn’t it?—to eschew your fine urban frocks and to hang out unselfconsciously on your own balcony. ‘Tis the season to be plucking dead leaves from your geraniums. Watering. Humming a mindless tune. Perhaps sipping on … Continue reading
Milan color story #5: Tutti-frutti
Hello all! I’ve categorized this “What we wear” as well as “Milan color story.” Both are leggermente misleading, because I’m not wearing these colors myself, at the moment, nor are these colors native to the city. But they certainly are … Continue reading

Fairy-tale middle
We love to talk about fairy-tale endings, where everything is wrapped up neatly in a bow. Love is requited all around regardless of sexual preference. Bills are paid. Unemployment is a non-existent concept. Economies hum along nicely without creating abuses. … Continue reading
Confession #6: The air we breathe
You can’t see it, of course, but air is one of the defining ingredients of a place. It can inspire as much longing or nostalgia as a certain type of bread or the view from a window in a room … Continue reading

Bring on the heat
Well. Here we are mid-to-late May, and it feels like summer’s in full swing. At 8:00 this morning, pedestrians were plying the sidewalks, wishing they’d worn less. It’s hot. And in the afternoons, Milan wears its preferred warm weather adjective: … Continue reading
A real palazzo
The word “palazzo” is thrown around loosely here. At the end of the day, it’s used to mean “apartment building.” But there are, in Milan, palazzi which deserve the unavoidable association an English speaker makes with the word “palace.” Here … Continue reading
