What is it?
The Daily Cure for me is trying to smell taste touch—really experience— something, each day, that reminds me that I'm alive and, mostly, happy to be here. A small moment that should go a long way, at least in theory.-

Politics in tatters
Yesterday and the day before, Italians were at the polls—that is, who deigned to venture there. We tend to think that it’s one’s duty to participate in democracy by voting, but what if, really, there is nothing to vote for? … Continue reading
Stuffed calamari: A recipe in notes and drawings
Hello again, and happy Monday morning. It’s hard to get started after such a warm, food-filled weekend as ours, so I’ll wallow for a minute or two, in what we ate which so soothed our tired urban souls. Then perhaps, … Continue reading
Color Story #11: Winter Citrus & Cedro-Love
Winter is singing its swan song. Two days ago, we all said, “Spring is in the air.” Today, we are in the midst of our last snowstorm of the season. Despite its fearsome chill, it isn’t going to have the … Continue reading
Ohhhhh, yesss.

Your bottom goes here:
You know how certain objects (or maybe all of them) have a soul? How they call to you, give comfort, listen and ultimately share their lives with you or at least witness important—and incredibly insignificant—bits and pieces of yours? How … Continue reading
The simple side dish
You know, the great—and I mean great—thing about Italian cookery is that it really doesn’t ask you to do very much. If you want to fuss about over your food and “create” “creations,” France is the place for you. If … Continue reading
The Street #4: Milanese morning
Nothing like a walk first thing in the morning to get the kinks out. And the caffeine in. The rain stopped yesterday, so today was all about saturated colors and scant glimpses of blue in a decidedly autumnal sky. I … Continue reading

Oh, olive trees
I was going to write about the formal “you” in Italian and about the many times I’ve embarrassed myself by slipping, American-style, into the informal version, but it’s Friday. Who needs the finer points of language today? I don’t. I … Continue reading
