Spadari
It seems that all I talk about lately is food. It’s not really the case, but it is fair to say that with cold weather rolling in, my interest in tucking into yumminess of all descriptions is increasing. I indulge … Continue reading

Sunday pizzata.
I know you saw this coming. Sooner or later, this blog was bound to be about pizza, that more or less inevitable comestible, if one is talking about the pleasures of Italy. So, I bow to predictability. Once a weekend, … Continue reading
Chestnuts. Castagne. Caldarroste.
They’re here. Falling from the trees Spilling from boxes at the fruit and veg vendor. Bursting from their spiny skins. Bulging in the rough, burlap sacks that the street vendors buy in bulk. Each one a miniature work of art, … Continue reading

The salumeria
The pressures of modern life, even here, all but dictate that you can’t always have that perfect home-made meal on the table. (Sorry, Martha.) So you turn to your neighborhood lifeline: the salumeria. This is the place where—for more than … Continue reading

Moving and shaking
Often, after crossing the border, the first stop we make is for coffee. We love France, but in all honesty, we don’t love French coffee. In fact, top on our list of what to pack when preparing for our summer … Continue reading
