What is it?
The Daily Cure for me is trying to smell taste touch—really experience— something, each day, that reminds me that I'm alive and, mostly, happy to be here. A small moment that should go a long way, at least in theory.-

One potato
Post #2 from our Easter week in Burgundy. I’ve always loved potatoes. And thirteen years of pasta and rice haven’t dimmed my passion. What, really, fills the cracks better than that earthy packet of starch? It’s no surprise, then, that … Continue reading
Crispy memories
This past Saturday we ate at Trattoria Ponte Rosso. The lunch was simultaneously satisfying, light, inventive and delicious—almost the same adjectives I would use to describe the place itself, tucked into one of those ancient, slightly sagging buildings on one … Continue reading

Salsa di pomodoro
Let’s just say it up front: tomato sauce shouldn’t be thick. I don’t know how many of you were raised in America in the 60’s and 70’s, but back then what we called “spaghetti sauce” was thick with tomato paste … Continue reading

You’re invited to a Spring dinner
lt’s been one of those days folks. Running, running, running around, with not a minute to breathe. Emails that had to be written. News that had to be absorbed. Documents that had to be put in order. Decisions that had … Continue reading

A new (old) love for the chocolate lover
Chocolate-lovers must be made, not born. I never required chocolate fixes before coming to Europe. Now, alas, I’m a helpless (though relatively controlled) addict, and my addiction (alas again, because it sounds so snobby) seems to be for really “good” … Continue reading

Gnocchi
Ah, the humble potato—that earthy lump of satisfaction and possibility. About once a year, I study the potatoes waiting patiently in the bottom of the vegetable drawer, and I tell myself it’s Gnocchi Day. The kitchen becomes a laboratory of … Continue reading
A little here, over there
This is a lovely little video about surviving and emerging Italian food culture in San Francisco. Makes me wonder: if I did move back to the States, how would I carry this experience with me? How would it influence my … Continue reading
Taking comfort where you find it
Time today has been short; not more than 15 minutes for blogging. But what I have to say takes about ten words or less. Don’t hold me to that, but here goes: Comfort food Italian style doesn’t get any better … Continue reading
